" It should never be forgotten that the horse’s own tail-female line (i.e . his dam, second dam, third dam and so forth) is the single most important influence in his pedigree. The next most important is inbreeding and linebreeding to important ancestors."

“One of the primary goals of those great (racing) families was to breed a better horse. They bought all of the best blood that was available in the world and brought it to the United States, intermingled that with our best blood, and produced the best racehorses in the world. We were breeding for soundness and improvement. (http://www.reines-de-course.com/soundness.htm)

Reines-de-Course(Queens of the Turf): Mares and families of mares which have consistently influenced the breed for better and which, when inbred to, can strengthen a pedigree.
The Rasmussen Factor (RF) is noted when a superior (Reines-de-Course) broodmare is inbred within 5 generations in a pedigree through different individuals. Statistically, RF is present in only about 4% of the thoroughbred population but has shown to produce a disproportionately high number of stakes horses.
Line Breeding: More remote than inbreeding, usually involving horses beyond the fourth generation. The difference in the two being “degree, not principle,” according to noted bloodstock expert Leon Rasmussen. Another definition is “a conservation program of inbreeding designed to concentrate the blood of a certain ancestor . . .”

UPDATE: Spider Powers sire Royal Applause, leading sire in Ireland, is quickly becoming a leading SIRE OF SIRES as well. He is the sire of Acclamation, sire of 11 Group winning juveniles 2011! Acclamation sire of group 1 winning Dark Angel.
" Dark Angel-This branch of Northern Dancer has been speed oriented and precocious from (Try My Best) and other notable sires in tail-mail include G1 winner Royal Applause" (werk.com/whoshotwhosnot/index.php/2011/06/).
BREEDING RECOMMENDATIONS:
Night Shift is one of the most obvious examples. Royal Applause has sired G2W Battle of Hastings and LW/G3P Royal Confidence from mares by Night Shift. Acclamation has sired LW Cake from a mare by Night Shift and G1W Dark Angel whose second dam is by Night Shift. Silver Hawk is another who fits this profile and Royal Applause has sired G1W Ticker Tape and G3W Habaayib from mares by Silver Hawk.
Medicean may be worth trying as he is another stallion who is rich in Preciptiation/Coronach crosses and Acclamation has sired G1W Dark Angel from a mare by his sire Machiavellian. Other names further back in pedigrees to look out for are Chamossaire (found mainly through Caro and Tirol) and Sheshoon.
*Royal Applause have successfully combined with other members of the Northern Dancer branches. The most obvious members of the Danzig line.
Royal Applause has sired LW Nice Applause (Catrail) from aStorm Cat line mare.
The Nureyev branch looks like one of the most obvious Northern Dancer branches to try with.
Royal Applause has sired three stakes winners fromNureyev line mares including G3W Lovelace (Polar Falcon), G3W Moth Ball (Soviet Star) and LW Luna Royale (Ashkalani).
Acclamation has also sired G3P Broken Applause from a mare by Polar Falcon. There are lots of Nureyev line mares currently in the broodmare population e.g. Stravinsky, Peintre Celebre (contains Somethingroyal), Fasliyev, Soviet Star, Polar Falcon (looks very strong), Pivotal (contains Caro), etc.
Both Royal Applause and Acclamation have sired stakes winners fromNijinsky line mares (Caerleon and Suave Dancer respectively).
Lyphard line mares may also be worth considering as Royal Applause has sired G3W Majestic Missile and LW Royal Intrigue from mares by Dancing Brave and Acclamation has sired LP Little Scotland from a mare by Alzao. It is interesting to note that both Dancing Brave and Alzao are out of mares that are by sons of Sir Gaylord.
It may also be worth trying mares which containEl Gran Senor as he is a full brother to Try My Best, which is the sub branch Spider Power originates to within the Northern Dancer sire-line.
Royal Applause has sired G3W Mister Cosmi and LW/G1P Auditorium from mares byWarning. Acclamation has sired LW Pencil Hill whose second dam was by Warning.
Therefore breeders should consider mares by Warning, Diktat, Charnwood Forest or mares which contain Known Fact in their immediate pedigree.
Royal Applause has sired G2W Whatsthescript from a mare by Lion Cavern (full brother to Gone West). Royal Applause has sired LW Rosa Delle Alpi from a mare by Diesis and Acclamation has sired G3P Prince Shaun also from a mare by Diesis (Note: Kris and Diesis are full brothers).
Royal Applause has also sired stakes winners from mares by Gulch, Distant View and Damister (Acclamation has also sired G1P Anglezarke from a mare by Damister). Royal Applause has sired a stakes winner from a mare by Quiet American who is from the Fappiano branch of the Mr Prospector
The Nasrullah lines of Grey Sovereign andBlushing Groom also figure in the leading progeny of Royal Applause and Acclamation. Royal Applause has sired two stakes winners from Blushing Groom line mares. Acclamation has sired two stakes horses from mares that are by sons of Caro (Cozzene and Kaldoun) and LW Pencil Hill whose dam is also by a Grey Sovereign line stallion.
The Nasrullah based Bold Ruler line, any mares left by Persian Bold should be considered for Equiano as Royal Applause has sired G2W Please Sing and LW Royal Storm from mares that are by this sire.
